Formation

Take Action

  • Talk to your children about what they are learning in Faith Formation.   Remember, parents are the first and best educators of children, especially in matters of faith.  Don’t leave it to your parish’s faith formation to bring up your child in faith...only YOU can do that.

  • Consider being a catechist at your parish.  Think you’re not qualified or don’t have the time?  Your parish will provide you with all the resources you need to be an effective catechist.  Ongoing workshops are offered through the Office of Faith Formation.

  • Visit a Catholic school in your area as an option for your child.   Read Bishop Cunningham’s words of praise for Catholic Schools.

  • Start or get involved with an Alpha course in your parish.  Alpha is a tool to introduce people to the Good News of Jesus Christ, providing a place for people to ask questions, share ideas, build friendships, and experience the love of God.  Contact the Office of Evangelization for more details.

  • Attend adult formation classes or Bible study groups in your area.  Many opportunities are listed on the diocesan events calendar.  Consult your parish bulletin or website for more local offerings.

  • Ask a priest or trusted friend to recommend spiritual reading or Catholic videos. Need inspiration?  Here are 10 books every Catholic should read.

  • Start a Bible Study.  Several parishes in our diocese have offered Bible studies using Jeff Cavins’ The Great Adventure series.  Here’s how to get started, or contact the Office of Evangelization at (315) 470-1429.
