Bishop Douglas J. Lucia - “Authentic Religion: Navigating the Religion of the Day”  

On June 4, 2019, Pope Francis appointed Bishop Lucia to be the 11th bishop of the Diocese of Syracuse. He was ordained and installed Bishop of Syracuse on August 8th, 2019. He is the shepherd of over 196,000 Catholics who reside in seven counties of the diocese. We are grateful to Bishop Lucia for making time in his busy schedule to speak at Theology on Tap and share his thoughts and insights with the young adult community

Rev. Brendan Foley - "Authentic Discernment: Where the Spirit of the Lord is, There is Freedom"

Fr. Brendan Foley was ordained a priest in June 2021 and serves as the Parochial Vicar for the parish communities of Holy Cross, DeWitt and St. Anthony of Padua, Syracuse. His favorite parts of his ministry are the incredible gift of administering the Sacraments, working with youth and young adults, ministering to the Spanish-speaking community in Syracuse, and accompanying curious and hungry souls in R.C.I.A.! He is grateful for his priesthood and continues to engage and enjoy the beautiful spiritual and intellectual tradition of the Church on a daily basis.

Steve Nepil - “Authentic Evangelization: What It Looks Like to Evangelize Today”

Steve Nepil is currently the Director of Faith Formation and Youth Ministry at Holy Cross in Dewitt, NY. Having been on the front lines of evangelization & youth ministry for the past 15 years, he comes with a great deal of hands-on and real life experience of preaching the Gospel in the post-modern world, most especially to the youth. Steve has a Bachelor's Degree in Theology and Philosophy from Franciscan University, along with a Masters Degree in Theology, with an emphasis in Sacred Scripture from the Augustine Institute. He lives in Manlius with his wife, two daughters and newly born son.

Michael Hall - “Authentic Evangelization: What It Looks Like to Evangelize Today”

Michael Hall has been a missionary with Catholic Christian Outreach (CCO) since 2003. For over 20 years, Michael’s ministry has been focused on forming missionaries who have a deep love for Jesus and the Scriptures, speaking at retreats and conferences across Canada and the United States. He is the author of Intentional Accompaniment: Developing a New Generation of Builders and of CCO’s Trust Faith Study. Michael holds a Master's Degree in Theology from the Augustine Institute. Originally from Vancouver, BC, he now lives in Ottawa, ON with his wife Amy and their four children.

David A. Kilpatrick  - “Authentic Interpretation: What to Know about Reading the Bible” 

David A. Kilpatrick, PhD is professor emeritus of psychology at SUNY Cortland. He received his PhD in psychology from Syracuse University and also holds a Master of Arts in Theological Studies from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, near Boston. He has been involved in adult education and youth work at various points since 1980, as a 20 year old. David has a particular interest in demonstrating that logic, history, and findings from science are more consistent with Christian Theism than with any other world view.

Anna Butler & Steven Conrad - “Authentic Pilgrimage: What It Takes to be a Catholic Pilgrim”  

Anna Butler pursues the intersection of Catholic fellowship, adventure, and the environment; whether that means planting trees with students during a year as a Jesuit Volunteer in Oregon, leading a group of women on a trip to St. Kateri Tekakwitha's shrine, or hiking 400+ miles on the Camino Portugués. She founded and co-coordinates the Syracuse Frassati Fellowship, a young adult group modeled after Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati's devotions to faith, service, and outdoor adventure. Anna's day job as an Environmental Analyst keeps her busy ensuring environmental compliance at solar and wind energy construction sites by searching for endangered bird species. 


Steven Conrad has lived in the Syracuse area for the past three years and was born in Dansville, New York. He is one of the founding members leadership members of the Syracuse Frassati Fellowship. In May of 2023, Steven traveled to France to complete the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage along the French Way (Camino Francés), starting in southern France and traversing northern Spain, covering nearly 500 miles in 34 days. He is an engineer for Baxter in Skaneateles and stays connected to Christ and the Church through attendance at St. Rose of Lima Church and the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
