Since 2003, the Diocese of Syracuse has committed to protecting children, young people, and vulnerable adults from sexual abuse through its Safe Environment Program. The program's effectiveness is based on thorough training in child sexual abuse prevention, the Child and Youth Protection Policy, and the Diocesan Code of Conduct.
Safe Environment Week provides an opportunity to acknowledge those who partner with the Diocese of Syracuse to prevent child sexual abuse, emphasizing their strong commitment to protecting our society's most vulnerable members. This group includes clergy, religious order members, diocesan employees, volunteers, and community members, all of whom are essential in raising awareness and implementing preventive measures. By combining their strengths and resources, they establish supportive networks that empower children, youth and vulnerable adults and cultivate a shared responsibility for the safety and well-being of all-not only within our parishes, schools, and agencies but throughout our neighborhoods and communities.
On behalf of Most Rev. Douglas J. Lucia, the Office of Safe Environment, and the Diocesan Safe Environment Committee, we express our heartfelt gratitude to all those dedicated to protecting children, young people, and vulnerable adults.
