Renewing Safe Environment credentials every five (5) years is a requirement of the Diocesan Child and Youth Protection Policy. The re-certification training reinforces a culture of awareness, knowledge, and vigilance to protect those entrusted to our care. The following individuals are required to complete the Safe Environment re-certification training session (1.5 hours) and undergo a criminal background check:
All clergy;
All members of religious orders;
All parish and diocesan employees, including those who have no contact with children, young people, or vulnerable adults;
All adult volunteers whose ministry or role places them in regular contact with children, young people, or vulnerable adults;
All liturgical ministers, including Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, members of the Music Ministry (such as cantors, choir members, and instrumentalists), sacristans, adult altar servers, leaders of liturgical ministries, lectors/readers, commentators, greeters, ushers, and those involved in homebound ministry.
Any adult interested in learning more about child abuse prevention
Volunteers in parishes, schools, or agencies who fail to meet the re-certification requirement by the expiration of their last training date will have their Safe Environment credentials suspended indefinitely. Suspended volunteers are prohibited from participating in any diocesan programs involving children, young people, or vulnerable adults until they complete the re-credentialing process.
