Young Adults in their 20’s & 30’s make up the largest demographic in the Catholic church. These individuals are considerably less religious than older Catholics. In response to this crisis of faith the New Evangelization seeks to re-convert the already baptized through “new methods, ardor and expression.” To assist parishes in these endeavors, the Syracuse Diocesan Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry is offering grants to parishes, or groups of parishes, for the 2018-2019 fiscal year.
The Heritage Committee approved the use of funds to support evangelization efforts for young adults. Funding, in the amount of $50,000, has been allocated for grants to parishes, or groups of parishes, (PCA’s - pastoral care areas), that will provide creative and innovative approaches that focus on evangelization especially by kergyma and discipleship, to young adults ages 18-39 (18 year olds should be post high school). These are single year grants up to $5,000. Grants have the potential to be renewed for two additional years (each year will require a new application/proposal and approval. The application approval process is a competitive process).
All parishes of the Diocese of Syracuse are eligible to apply for Heritage Young Adult Ministry Grants.
- Priority will be given to programs that can be replicated in other parishes.
- Priority will be given to parishes that have a young adult coordinator in the same demographic, i.e., 20’s – 30’s.
- Programs that effectively seek to evangelize young adults and promote discipleship will receive priority.
- Parishes that work together with other parishes in their PCA or region will receive priority.
- Requests for programs that parishes will be able to financially sustain in future years will receive priority.
Grant application forms and budget sheets are available as downloadable documents below. Applications for grants will only be accepted on these forms and must be submitted electronically to the following email address: firstname.lastname@example.org
Grant applications are due by April 15, 2018. Applications will be reviewed and applicants will be notified of any adjustments to be made to the grant. Applications will then be ranked by a group of content experts and sent with recommendations to the diocesan director of youth & young adult ministry.
It is expected that all funds received will be expended during the fiscal year 2018-2019. A mid and end of year update are required for each project that is funded. These reports must have documentation for all expenditures, i.e. monthly financial reports and receipts.
Disclaimer: Any unexpended funds need to be returned to the Diocese if not used according to grant specifics by June 30, 2019. During the year, if you have been awarded a grant and wish to use it in a non-grant way, submit a request in writing to be reviewed by the Heritage Committee.
