Rev. Jason C. Hage has been appointed by Bishop Lucia as Diocesan Delegate for the new Vocational Synthesis Year instituted by Pope Francis for all diocesan seminarians studying for the priesthood. Bishop Lucia is sending Father Hage for a two-year accreditation program to help prepare him to eventually serve in this new role for the diocese. He will be receiving a Certificate in Pastoral Supervision for Missionary Discipleship through The Seminary Formation Council of the United States. This Certificate will prepare Father Hage to accompany seminarians in our diocese who are in their final stage of formation before their ordination to the priesthood. The Vocational Synthesis Stage is one of transition, where a man who has recently finished his seminary education begins a life of ministry as a transitional deacon in a parish setting. As this new stage of formation takes place outside of the seminary, the primary formator of a candidate at this stage is typically a pastor delegated by the bishop. Father Hage will remain the Pastor of Mary Mother of Our Savior Parish in Utica, N.Y., as well as the diocesan Director of Vocation Promotion. This appointment is effective immediately.
