Most Rev. Robert J. Cunningham, Bishop of Syracuse has appointed Father John W. Canorro as Pastor of the newly merged parish of Christ the Good Shepherd in Oswego, New York effective July 1, 2019. Father Canorro will leave his position as Pastor of St. Rose of Lima in North Syracuse where he has served as its pastor since July 2017. Prior to this position he was Pastor of Holy Trinity Church in Fulton and for a period of time he served as Pastor of St. Anne, Mother of Mary, in Mexico and Christ Our Light in Pulaski in addition to his duties in Fulton. Father Canorro began his priestly ministry at Holy Cross Church in DeWitt and has served as a member of the faculty at Bishop Grimes High School in East Syracuse.
Father Canorro is a native of East Syracuse and St. Matthews is his home parish. He is a graduate of East Syracuse Minoa High School, Marist College and St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore. He was ordained on June 2, 2001 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
Father Canorro is quite familiar with the northern region of the Diocese of Syracuse and is looking forward to returning to minister in this area during this important time of transition for the people of Oswego.
