SYRACUSE, NY: The Diocese of Syracuse announces a plan to bring together Bishop Ludden and Bishop Grimes Jr./Sr. High School to form a new junior/senior high school. The unified entity will be located at the current Bishop Ludden High School campus at 815 Fay Road in Syracuse. It will be named Bishop Ludden/Grimes, honoring the legacy and contributions of both schools, which were named after the first and second Bishops of Syracuse, respectively.
This decision was made after careful consideration and extensive analysis of current trends in Catholic education in the area, including enrollment, financial stability, and long-term sustainability. The goal is to ensure a vibrant and thriving Catholic educational experience for students for years to come.
“Faced with the reality of declining enrollment in all schools across New York State and increasing costs, this change has become imperative,” said Most Rev. Douglas J. Lucia, Bishop of Syracuse. “By bringing together the strengths of both Bishop Grimes and Bishop Ludden, we will create a dynamic and innovative learning environment that prepares students for success in college and beyond.”
Faculty, staff, and parents were notified today. Detailed transition planning is already underway and in the coming weeks, a series of meetings will be held to discuss the transition plan in detail. Additionally, a dedicated email address has been provided to parents, staff, and students to submit questions, and regularly updated information will be posted on the diocesan website, www.syrdio.org.
“We in the diocese are committed to integrating the best academic programs and resources from both schools, as well as maintaining and expanding the diverse range of extracurricular activities currently offered at both schools, including athletics, art, clubs, and student organizations,” stated Amy Sansone, EdD, Superintendent of Catholic Schools. “We will be stronger together.”
The Diocese of Syracuse encompasses seven counties: Broome, Chenango, Cortland, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, and Oswego. There are a total of 19 Catholic schools in the diocese, four of which are diocesan high schools. For more information, contact Danielle E.
