BINGHAMTON, NY: The Catholic Schools of Broome County (CSBC) announced a plan to realign its school campuses, effective at the end of the 2024-2025 academic year. This decision, made in consultation with the Board of Directors and the Diocese of Syracuse, comes in response to declining enrollment trends in the region and aims to ensure the long-term sustainability and excellence of Catholic education in Broome County. Key changes include:
Closure of All Saints School: All Saints students will transition to St. James School, allowing for a seamless transition and maintaining existing sibling and friendship groups.
Expansion of Seton Catholic Central: The school will incorporate 6th grade beginning in the 2026-2027 academic year, creating a unified middle school experience for students from St. James and St. John the Evangelist Schools.
“This decision was not made lightly,” said Tracy Caezza, President of CSBC. “We deeply value the contributions of All Saints School and recognize the impact this change will have on the community. However, this restructuring is necessary to ensure the long-term viability of Catholic education in Broome County and provide the best possible educational experience for our students.”
All faculty, staff and parents were notified on Friday. CSBC will host a Parent Meeting for All Saints families to discuss the transition plan in detail. Meetings for St. James, St. John the Evangelist and Seton Catholic Central families regarding these changes will also be scheduled.
“We understand that this announcement may bring a range of emotions,” continued Caezza. “We are committed to supporting our students, families, and faculty throughout this transition. We believe this realignment will strengthen our schools and position them for continued success in providing a high-quality, faith-based education for generations to come.”
“We in the diocese hold Catholic education as a key priority,” stated Amy Sansone, EdD Superintendent of Catholic Schools. “This realignment reflects our commitment to providing a strong and sustainable foundation for Catholic education in Broome County. We will work closely with the CSBC community to ensure a smooth and supportive transition for all students and families.”
