To make a gift from your IRA 
If you are 70.5 years or older, you may be able to give an amount (up to $100,000) each year from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) directly to the Foundation without having to pay taxes on the money.  This is a popular form of giving that is sometimes referred to as the IRA charitable rollover, or the qualified charitable distribution (QCD). When you turn 73, this gift may begin counting toward your required minimum distribution (RMD).

To qualify as a tax-free donation, your disbursement must come directly from the administrator of your IRA to the Foundation. You cannot receive the funds first.  Please contact the administrator of your IRA with any tax or account-specific questions.

To make a gift from your IRA, please follow these steps:

1. Seek the advice of your financial or legal advisor if necessary.
2. Determine the gift you would like to give.
3. Contact Beth Hoey, Executive Director of the Foundation of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse Inc., at (315) 472-8447 or [email protected] to inform us of your intended gift including the amount of the gift and your parish.
4. Ask your IRA administrator to send a check from your account to the Foundation directly to the address below. Please include your name in the memo of the check and note that it is a gift to HOPE Appeal.

*Your financial advisor might suggest making your gift through a direct transfer. This transfer would require the following additional information:

Make HOPE Appeal ministries the beneficiary of your IRA
Your IRA requires a beneficiary upon your death. You can also make the Foundation the beneficiary of your IRA with restrictions to benefit HOPE Appeal ministries.
