Syracuse, NY - The Diocese of Syracuse joyfully announces the commencement of the Jubilee Year 2025, a time of forgiveness, reconciliation, and renewal in the Catholic Church. In alignment with Pope Francis’ invitation to become “Pilgrims of Hope,” the Jubilee Year will begin with an Opening Mass on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at 9:45 AM at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Syracuse. The Mass, celebrated by Bishop Douglas J. Lucia, will also be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person.
A Jubilee year, traditionally celebrated every 25 years, serves as a sacred period to restore relationships with God, one another, and all of creation. This Holy Year invites Catholics worldwide to deepen their faith and live out the Gospel message in their daily lives.
The Diocese will engage in this holy pilgrimage in three distinct ways:
The Word of God: Encouraging individual and communal Scripture study to foster spiritual growth.
The Eucharist and Sacrament of Penance: Expanding opportunities for Eucharistic Adoration and Confession to encounter the Risen Lord.
Mission: Renewing social ministries and emphasizing care for creation and service to those in need.
Throughout the year, the Diocese will host significant events, including:
Diocesan Retreat: March 31 - April 2, 2025, featuring evenings of prayer and reflection across three locations in the Diocese.
Pilgrimage to the National Shrine of Divine Mercy: Fall 2025, offering an opportunity for spiritual renewal.
The Opening Mass will serve as a beacon of unity and renewal for the faithful, emphasizing the Diocese’s commitment to “Pilgrims of Hope” as we prepare for the promise of the future.
