What is Evangelization?
The Evangelization Office envisions the development of vibrant parishes committed to the missionary mandate of the Church, to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ. It supports ongoing evangelizing efforts throughout the diocese through collaboration, resources and workshops. The Office supports pastors in the mission of evangelization, inspiring and equipping disciples committed to sharing the Gospel. Helps to create vibrant parishes where people encounter Christ (KNOW), are formed as disciples (LIVE), and witness to the Gospel in words and actions (SHARE).
Every human situation can become a threshold experience for meeting God. When the love of God is made present by us, the Church, we participate in the work of Evangelization. Through our witness and the proclamation of the Gospel message, we carry on the mission of Jesus:
“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.” (Mt. 28:19-20)
With the guidance of the Holy Spirit, our goals are based on Go and Make Disciples: A National Plan and Strategy for Catholic Evangelization in the United States (USCCB).
These goals are:
Goal I: To bring about in all Catholic such an enthusiasm for their faith that, in living their faith in Jesus, they freely share it with others.
Goal II: To invite all people in the United States, whatever their social or cultural background, to hear the message of salvation in Jesus Christ so they may come to join us in the fullness of Catholic faith.
Goal III: To foster gospel values in our society, promoting the dignity of the human person, the importance of the family, and the common good of our society, so that our nation may continue to be transformed by the saving power of Jesus Christ.
Coffee Cup Ministry: it's about more than a cup. It's about meeting another person just where they are and accepting them in an honest, compassionate way. Download a brochure with more information by clicking here.
