Rev. William T. Guckert passes away at the age of 72

Rev. William T. Guckert passed away on April 14. He was born in Syracuse, NY to William E. and Estelle Guckert on January 1, 1940 and resided on the West End of Syracuse. He attended St. Joseph's German Catholic Grammar School and was a graduate of St. Lucy's Academy. He graduated from St. Andrew's and St. Bernard's Seminary and was ordained into the priesthood on May 21, 1966. His first assignment was at St. Mary's in Rome, NY and he also taught at Rome Catholic and Seton Catholic High School in Binghamton, NY. His other assignments included St. Francis in Lacona, NY; Our Lady of Good Counsel in Endicott, NY; St. Patrick's in Jordan, NY; St. Ann's in Syracuse, NY and St. Michael-St. Peter on Onondaga Hill. He retired as pastor of St. Agnes in Brewerton, NY after serving for over 20 years where he made many lasting friendships. Upon retirement he resided at the Nottingham.
Father Guckert is survived by sisters, Bernice Rolince and Peggy Anderson; brothers, Edward and Joseph Guckert; many nieces and nephews; grand nieces and grand nephews and a great-grand niece and a great-grand nephew.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Ann's Church, 4471 Onondaga Blvd. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. Ann's Church. A Priest Vigil will be held at 7 p.m. at St. Ann's following calling hours.
