Maintenance Supervisor/ Sacristan
Job Description Summary: The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the effective, efficient and safe maintenance, and upkeep of the Cathedral buildings and grounds including mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems. The Sacristan is responsible for assisting in the preparation and maintenance of parts of the Cathedral’s sacristy and interior environment of the church building. The Maintenance Supervisor/Sacristan position is a non-exempt position that reports to the Rector of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

Maintenance Supervisor Duties and Responsibilities:

 Supervise and schedule maintenance workers and cleaning personnel – assign responsibilities, approve work schedules and time reports, and meet regularly with them.
 Oversee all maintenance, repair, and cleaning of the Cathedral and other parish buildings.
 Develop a list of service providers and call when needed.
 Request quotes for major repairs.
 Open Cathedral buildings and do any set ups required for the day.
 Responsible for daily security of the Cathedral and the opening and closing of the building for any events that may be scheduled.
 Responsible for contracting for landscape services, trash removal and snow removal.
 Responsible for maintaining and ordering paper products and cleaning supplies used in the maintenance of the Cathedral buildings.
 Receive deliveries as needed. Sacristan Duties and Responsibilities:
 Responsible for cleaning of the Cathedral sacristy.  Maintain sanctuary area. This includes replacement of candles, pews are clean of debris, flowers are maintained, and incense is disposed of. Ensure sacred areas are properly dusted and cleaned
 Oversee the cleaning and maintenance of vessels and maintain supply of wine, hosts, palms, incense, etc. 
 Ensure Cathedral sacristy is prepared for all sacramental events including weekend Masses, special Liturgical events and Liturgical holidays.
 Ensure worship books and cards are replaced as needed. Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Knowledge and understanding of Church liturgies, the order of services, the preparations and the tear down.

Other Skills and Abilities: Experience in minor repair work, ability to lift 50 pounds, able to honor and maintain confidentiality, ability to provide own transportation for job-related responsibilities and on-call availability for emergencies. Reverence and appreciation for maintaining sacred space, knowledge of post Vatican II liturgy and liturgical norms, ability to work with presiders and liturgical ministers, ability to work flexible hours, ability to work independently and cooperatively

Administrative Receptionist

SUMMARY:  This position calls for an individual who will be present in the Retreat House on weekends

and evenings as needed to greet guests, check them in, orient them to the House, collect any fees and attend to their needs while they are here. Work days and times will vary, depending on when guests are here and will be assigned by the Office Manager.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greeting guests and visitors
  • Checking-in guests, collecting fees (as necessary), directing guests to their bedrooms, showing them their assigned meeting room, location of restrooms, coat room, the Chapel, etc.
  • Communicating with Group Contacts and Speakers and assisting them in their requests for equipment, supplies and any changes in room set-up that they require
  • Responding appropriately to emergency situations and unforeseen problems (such as power failure or minor maintenance problems)    
  • Setting up for Liturgy or Benediction, as needed, and straightening up the Chapel after any service takes place there
  • Answering the phone and taking messages
  • Turning off lights, closing windows and locking doors after guests leave
  • Dealing with bookings by phone, e-mail, letter, fax or face-to-face
  • Taking payments by credit card, cash or check
  • Assisting with database management
  • Taking and passing on messages to guests and staff
  • Dealing with complaints or problems
  • Assisting with mailings
  • Other assigned duties

 QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:  Excellent interpersonal skills and an outgoing, friendly personality. Computer skills (word, excel) necessary. Familiarity with PowerPoint. Ability to work independently and as a team. Able to multitask and set priorities. Ability to think quickly and respond appropriately to a variety of situations.  Willing to do whatever needs to be done to provide guests and visitors with a positive experience of their visit to the Retreat House. Able to work flexible hours.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:  Some office and/or hospitality experience preferred.     HOURS: Weekdays – 4pm- 8pm, Weekends – Open availability

Technical Support Specialist II
SUMMARY:  Under the supervision of t Director of IT for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse, the Technology Support Technician provides Monitoring, Maintenance, Optimization, and Tier 2 technical support at assigned location(s).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Includes the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provides efficient and effective technical support.
  • Provides installation, configuration and support for conre infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoots complex problems requiring specialized expertise and uses specialized tools to diagnose and repair computer, network, server and peripheral systems.
  • Maintains accurate records of system problems and their resolutions.
  • Assesses infrastructure related technology needs of the assigned location(s) makes appropriate recommendations to the IT Director.
  • Assists with the inventory records of school technology-related equipment and software.
  • Utilizes available resources to research and evaluate internal systems’ suitability to purpose for defined technology initiatives.
  • Provides both reactive and proactive technology services.
  • Monitors, tracks and responds effectively to technical support requests (Spiceworks).
  • Travels to assigned locations.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned by Director of IT

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Must possess  expertise in  recent versions of Windows OS and Mac OS, Microsoft Server 2012/2008, Active Directory Tools, Group Policy, Proficiency with command line based switching and routing environments, proficient with wireless networking, security.  Familiarity with Cisco and Open source Voice over IP telephony.  Ability to mentor, train, and communicate with technical support personnel,. Must possess excellent communication, customer service and technical professional skills. Must possess a valid New York State driver’s license and operational, NYS inspected vehicle.

Executive Director of the Foundation of the Diocese

SUMMARY:  The Executive Director of the Foundation of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse New York will be a results oriented strategic thinker who will lead institutional growth, is people focused and mission driven.  This individual will also have a proven track record in all aspects of fundraising, including annual campaigns, planned giving, major gifts, and all strategic and operational aspects of large campaigns.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Includes the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  •  In conjunction with the Board of Trustees and members of the Corporation sets the priorities and strategic direction of The Foundation.
  • Advises the Bishop of the Diocese on Fund Raising strategy and policy.
  • Cultivate new donors while maintaining current donor relations with Foundation donors.
  • Engages the Catholic, business and civic communities to understand and recognize the Church’s social, educational and spiritual benefits to the community.
  • Responsible for Board of Trustees relations, especially the standing committee chairs, acts as ex-officio member of key committees.
  • Manage a comprehensive transmittal and acknowledgment process for all gifts, including donor records and recognition.
  • Plan, implement and evaluate the Annual HOPE Appeal campaign of the Diocese to sustain growth.
  • Provide data driven analysis for current and future campaigns.
  • Manage and lead the planned gifts program including marketing for bequest support, life income agreements, life insurance policies and life estate arrangements.
  • Serve as a consultant to all parishes of the Diocese which request advice and counsel concerning stewardship and fund raising.
  • Work collaboratively with Development staff in Catholic Schools and Charities.
  • Manage the development function by establishing polices, systems and procedures.
